Dow Corning Connects With Leading Experts In Silicon Science

Barry, UK - Dow Corning has announced it will be the primary sponsor of the European Silicon Days Conference, an event that will bring together leading minds in the field of silicon science. The conference, in Bath, UK, will link more than 200 researchers and scientists from the principal academic institutions in Europe with their counterparts from silicone manufacturing companies and many of their key customers.

During the conference, participants will hear the latest developments in a wide range of topics covering synthetic, mechanistic, theoretical, and industrially relevant silicon chemistry. "This is the ultimate opportunity for those of us engaged in pushing the boundaries of silicon science to hear what's new and what's on the horizon," said Dr Gregg Zank, Dow Corning Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, who will be participating in the conference. "We need to continue to promote and expand the science of silicon and silicon-based materials for the sustainable growth of the industry at large. This conference gives us the opportunity to network and share the latest advances that will help our companies and our customers."

He also commented that Dow Corning is expanding the company's portfolio beyond its traditional position in silicones and into areas such as silicon biotechnology and plasma.

The new Dow Corning Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Silicon Chemistry will also be presented during the conference. This award recognizes and encourages technical and intellectual excellence in silicon chemistry within the younger academic community.

About the Conference
The conference takes place between September 9-11. It is co-sponsored by Wacker Silicones; Degussa; The Open University and Bath University; The deadline for abstracts to be submitted is March 31.
